Welp, just scoured up a Nintendo “Red Tent” vs. system.
Here’s more pics from the gallery: http://heinet.org/coppermine/thumbnails.php?album=19
This was sitting in the back of a local tavern for many years. K3V was in the back scouring for Miller Points, and he asked the barkeep if $100 would be enough to take if off his hands. He obliged.
The man stated that a guy owed him $700 years back, and he offered this unit in exchange. The barkeeper accepted his offer and that’s how he acquired it. He had it in the back bar for a while, but was in storage in the back room for a number of years.
So K3V and I went back with my father’s Aztec and we gave the gentleman his fee. We proceeded to hoist this machine out the back way, which had about 400 doors to get out..
This thing is a tank. It’s all metal. Very heavy. I think that’s why the guy wanted it gone so bad, because it’s such a bitch to move.
We got it down to the basement and fired her up. Works pretty decent. It has VS. Golf on one side, and VS. Super Mario Bros. on the other. One monitor is really nice looking, but has some slight Golf burn-in. The other monitor is blurry for about 20 minutes until it warms up.
I took the PCB out and swapped the ROMs around so VS. Super Mario Bros. would be on the side with the nicer monitor and joystick.
It’s missing a 1 Player button on one side but otherwise it’s pretty decent. Was completed coated in cig tar though. Cleaning off one CRT produced about 5 completely black paper towels.
I managed to open the hatch with only one key. You have to unlock the side closest to the monitor, gently bend it up, and put it back in the locked position for the key to release. Then unlock the other side, and the hood will open. I removed the lock latches for now, since I only have one key, and the hood does not close completely with the locks down.
There was about $4.75 worth of change in the machine and coin box. I noticed one of the coin return buttons was pushed in, so I disassembled it a little bit. There was another $4 of various change jammed in the slot. Seems to work OK now.
Still a WIP.
